SHOTFAMZ 30 October Vaccination Drive and ARK Project
SHOTFAMZ Reflection and Thanks -
On Saturday 30 October our community came together to vaccinate 150 people and we ended up with 265 vaccines given out. It was raining in the arvo but the team soldiered on. We had an awesome time, and we are hoping for more on the 20 November Shotfamz event (see attached flyer at the bottom). Please see our photos and If possible can you highlight the success of giving our food parcels as a thankyou to whānau getting vaccinated rather than a incentive. Alot of businesses and organizations supported the cause fim including Kidscan, New World Mt Roskill and McDonald's Mt Roskill, Santi Niwas Trust, Whodidyouhelptoday? TRUST, Wesley Primary and Intermediate School.
FIRSTLY thankyou to our volunteers as we reached 265 vaccines given because of the mahi of 45 plus volunteers and so many people working from home and off site to support our SHOTFAMZ event so a huge thankyou for what you achieved.
After the event I felt so humbled and tired but also stoked and excited this morning as we all know that we have made a massive difference in the fight against COVID19. OUR SHOTFAMZ crew set out to vaccinate 150 people and we smashed that target by midday yesterday!!!
On behalf of our community at Wēteri Kura, I would like to thank our ARK project collective team led by Ps Peter and Tili Leilua. I want to acknowledge the heroes of our community but please accept my apologies if I have missed someone. This amazing group of diverse people come together and identified a problem and we planned tirelessly to pull this SHOTFAMZ event into reality. This team consists of Medical Team led by Fiona Lai, Admin/comms and coordination led by Tili and Zena Wrigley, ARK Food bank led by Aoto'a and Lionel Teleaga and the GHM crew, Leva Faafua from AKL council who made the space available along with Infay Wong See.
YESTERDAY we also gave away close to 250 food parcels (cheers to Weteri Tumuaki Tuatua - Shelley Saunders and the Wesley team), 250 shopping vouchers (Whaea SAM and thanks to Hon Minster Michael Wood and NW Mt Roskill for sponsoring heaps of these and Sarah Coldham for getting us more), we shouted 100 Big Macs (thanks Rose for giving these out and Sam Maharaj for sponsoring from Mt Roskill Maccas) and heaps of kids prizes including stationary (given out by Dionne, Janice, Sangeeta, Sione) and donated by Sarah Jack at Whodidyouhelptoday? TRUST, and lolly bags donated by Aaron Scanes at Mt Roskill New World). Nilima Venkman and the Santi Niwas Trust donated 100 food parcels to the cause were given away as well.
We couldn't have given away so much kai without the help of Ps. Lionel and Aoto'a along with Ps Pete who have set up our amazing ARK Project food bank at the start of this lockdown and funded so much support for our community. The parcel making crew had spent the last week (OFTEN AFTER HOURS) making 300 food parcels - including the amazing - Vincent (PV), Transformation church team, Kindomized Church team led by Ps Blessing and Mark Roberts and our Chinese church community led by Ps Eric and CMINZ team. It was also awesome to have some cool, calm and experienced traffic management team led by Sam and the procare team.
SECONDLY I want to thank every one of the Tāmaki Health team, who worked so well together with our team to get 265 people vaccinated. Along with our 45 us volunteers we have saved so many lives and in the process have also made some new friends and become part of a collective movement to get Wēteri vaccinated against COVID19.
Some of our volunteers were from our local area like the many churches from Puketāpapa as mentioned but stepped up to help everyone like Uini our new nurse, Shona and Jochebed, Gaewyn, and Tanya and keeping our volunteers happy and always helping everywhere. It was great to some of our local education, health, and social work professionals including staff from Wesley Primary and Intermediate, Owairaka Primary School and MRGS, Dionne from Community Approach and POLICE, Ibrahim from Somali Youth Trust, Procare, Local Doctors. It was nice to see local community folk who responded to the call like our wagon team who pulled 250 food parcels up to the carpark namely Frank, PV, and Kavita and Natasha who also made the awesome promo videos for us throughout the day.
Alot of kind people came through to support and buy us food for our volunteers like Leva and Auckland Council, Shaleni and Aaron and many others.
Lastly I want you to all feel free to join us again in the 20 November - Wesley SHOTFAMZ event as we will have the Fono Bus with the help of Hon Minister Michael Wood. I was humbled to hear so many OF OUR TEAM saying in the rain, that you would be back for the next one!!! I will send out an email with a similar registration for the next one in the next week, if you are free and interested in helping Wēteri again please let us know.
