Matariki 2022

VINAKA! KA PAI! NGĀ MIHI NUI to both Wesley Primary and Wesley Intermediate students and staff for coming together to  celebrate Matariki with our collective Hapori. Our kids showed their whānau and our wider community their amazing talents and passion for matariki this term.
What a pleasure it was to host WIS and our manuhiri to celebrate a special Matariki together. I have a feeling this tradition will continue as it supports our collaboration across our two kura. We both have supportive board chairs Vaughan and Sione that encouraged us to make our matariki celebration possible.
Secondly thankyou to the ICEBREAKER team led by Scott in preparing the kai, alongside Suchi, Ps Peter and Tili Leilua, Matua Hemi, Mr Pope and our volunteer parents as the hangi was incredible. Matua Jo, GTT Team, Whaea Max, Whaea Ocea and the cultural team have set up authentic kaupapa māori initiatives each year and took it to another level with supportive staff from both schools. Whaea Madie and Ana in our office has been busy too with gathering and booking everything we needed these last two weeks!
Also a poroporo for a special leader working behind the scenes with excellent event management was Shelley and I hope she has a good rest this weekend along with every ngā Weteri kura kaiako.
I want to also acknowledge our special guests for making the time to attend and celebrate Matariki with us especially MOE Advisor Julie, Property team  Bernard and Fiona and Kahui Ako leader Shameen who made the effort to join us today. I want to tautoko our speakers on the taumata - Matua Phil for sharing his whānau hautapu, Matua Vaughan for leading the manuhiri and Matua Harko for teaching our kura about  Ara Tākaro Toi MĀORI.
Lastly I also want to acknowledge Whaea Rachel for leading remotely to make this all happen with Whaea Michelle and Matua John leading WIS as Manuhiri.
